My great-grandma has been in the hospital since October 11 and she is not doing very good. So, this past weekend my mom, sister and I went up to Colorado to say our final good-byes. I did pretty good until we were leaving and that's when I broke down. And she just kept telling me, "Don't cry. It's going to be okay. I promise." She is almost 86 and she is barely existing. She weighs about 85 pounds. She can't even sit up. I know this is the best thing for her but it's still really hard to lose someone you love. She just doesn't need to suffer anymore.
This past summer we went through kind of the same thing with my grandma. She went unresponsive one day and she is a DNR (meaning they are not supposed to CPR or anything like that to try to revive her) but they her bi-pap on her and that's what kept her alive. After a while the respiratory therapist came in and told us that she was making no effort to breathe on her own, that the machine was doing all of the breathing for her. Knowing my grandma's wishes, we decided to take her off of the machine and let her go peacefully. We all came in and said our good-byes. My mom had called my favorite young women's president to see if she could find someone to come give my grandma a release of life blessing. And when she got to the hospital she was telling me about this book she was reading. It was about a girl that was living in the pre-existance. And this little girl just couldn't understand coming to a life where everyone is sad to see someone die and return to our Heavenly Father's presence. I just try to keep this thought in my head when trials such as these come about. Oh and by the way, my grandma did end up waking up the next morning and she is still doing good to this day.
