I've never been very big on Black Friday shopping, mainly because most of my Thanksgivings were spend at the ranch where there were no stores to go shopping at. This is the third year that I have ventured out to do the whole Black Friday thing, and might possibly be my last.....well at least if I have to work again on Black Friday.
Okay, so my manager and I have been planning on going Black Friday shopping for quite a while now. I was so stoked to find out that Wal-Mart's sales started at 10:00pm and Kohl's opened at Midnight. That meant I didn't have to stay out all night right? Wrong! The plan was to meet up at 9:30 at Wal-Mart. Well I thought if I got home from dinner at 7pm then I could take a nap before the madness all started. Think again! Not even five minutes after I got home I get a text from my manager telling me that her son said Wal-Mart was already busy and they were going over there now. So off to Wal-Mart I went at 7:30pm. All I really wanted from there was the $2 movies, because I am a movie freak. We did our shopping and then decided to get in line at 8:30. After standing in line for an hour and a half and fighting off people that kept trying to cut in front of us, the lights finally turned and 45 minutes later we finally made it to the register. Well we were so exhausted after that, my manger decided she didn't need to go to Kohl's.
Meanwhile, my friend was texting me about the Kohl's sales. Did I need to go to Kohl's for anything? No! Did I need to spend any more money? No! Did I need to stay out any later since I did have to work the next day? No! But did I end up going to Kohl's at midnight? Yes! We got to Kohl's around 12:15am and there was still a line outside going into the store. It was pure madness! We got in the store and looked around and did our shopping. We got in line at 1am and ended up at the register at 3am. Well my whole goal was to get my $15 Kohl's cash, we got to the register and I was $9 short. I grabbed a cd and candle. That brought my total to $49.91. REALLY?! ONLY $0.09 MORE?!?! I was off to get another candle when another employee came by and said "Oh, she doesn't need to spend $0.09, she will get her Kohl's cash." What did I feel at that time? Relief and excitement that I was getting my Kohl's cash, but most of all what I was feeling was exhaustion.
I learned my lesson that night....NO BLACK FRIDAY SHOPPING WHEN YOU HAVE TO WORK THE NEXT DAY!
